Toji 冬至
Japanese Winter Solstice Dinner
The winter solstice falls on June 21 and to celebrate Field & Green’s Head Chef, Takuto Tanaka, is showcasing foods traditionally cooked in Japan to mark the date. Seen as a time to eat seasonal vegetables that have the auspicious, sound of ’n’ in their name, this custom reflects the wisdom of eating healthy foods to keep one nourished over winter.
Toji 冬至, the winter solstice in Japan, symbolises the harmony and balance of the life force and is a time to celebrate. Rooted in the philosophy of Ying & Yang, it is believed that the ‘ying’ of cold and darkness are at their most dominant on the shortest day of the year. Once this passes, the ‘yang’ of warmth and light will be upon us, and soon spring will return.
Featuring live koto music by award-winning musician and composer, Salina Fisher.
